Valentine's Day

When my kids receive invitations to Valentine parties, instead of buying premade ones with silly sayings, I’ll have them make their own. Cutting hearts out of red and pink construction paper, they mat them with doilies, and decorate them as they choose. I then have them pick one of the characteristics of love from 1 Corinthians 13 (see list below) to put on their valentine, including the entire verse. This points our kids to Scripture, reminds them that we are responsible to show love to others, and encourages in them, as well as the recipient of their valentines, a proper understanding of God’s love so they aren’t deceived by the world’s counterfeit. This is a great way to hide God’s Word in their hearts, and God promises we’ll be successful in all we do if we hide His Word in our hearts. (Joshua 1:8.) Be creative – use every opportunity you have to instill Scripture in the lives of your children!

Love:

- is patient,

-is kind,

-is not jealous,

-does not brag,

-is not arrogant,

-does not act unbecomingly,

-does not seek its own,

-is not provoked,

-does not take into account wrongs suffered,

-does not rejoice in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth,

-bears all things,

-believes all things,

-hopes all things,

-endures all things,

-never fails.
